2010 Junior Olympic Sailing Festival - Chesapeake Bay Open

Event Details

Dates:  July 9 -11, 2010

Overview:  The Rock Hall Yacht Club will host the 2010 Junior Olympic Sailing Festival for the Chesapeake Bay.  US Sailing's Junior Olympic Sailing Program is a nationwide series of sailing regattas for youth ages 8 to 18.  The goal:  to encourage young sailors to enjoy sailing and to develop their skill.  The JOs mix Olympic-style competition with elements of learning and fun for all levels of Junior Sailors.

Classes:

- C420

- Laser Radial

- Optimist Green, Red, White, and Blue

- Hobie 16'

- Board Sailor

Participants:   Any youth sailor ages 8-18, from beginning racers to those with Olympic aspirations.  Competitors must be a member of US Sailing.

Schedule:

FRIDAY, July 9

  • Open practice & afternoon clinics

  • Check-in 1—9 pm

  • Lounge & Pool open at RHYC

SATURDAY, July 10

  • Check-in 7:30 - 8:30 am

  • Opening Ceremony and Skippers Meeting 9 am

  • Harbor gun 10:30 am

  • Racing to follow

  • RHYC Pool, Lounge, food & drink, and grounds open all day

  • Dinner and DJ Dance Party 5 - 10 pm

SUNDAY, July 11

  • Harbor Gun 9 am

  • No race to start after 3 pm

  • RHYC Pool, Lounge, food & drink, and grounds open for families all day

  • Awards & Closing Ceremony (with Gary Jobson) ASAP after racing

Club Amenities:  The Rock Hall Yacht Club is located at the confluence of Langford Creek and the Chester River, on the Chesapeake Bay’s picturesque Eastern Shore.  This stretch of the beautiful Chester River is a great place to sail since there is a lot of open water, limited power boat traffic, easy beach launching and plenty of grass on which to park and rig.  Launching facilities include two crane hoists, launch ramp and beach launching; the RHYC grounds are free of all overhead wires.   The RHYC is a full-featured club offering bar and lounge, bath house, pool, pavilion, acres of grassy lawn, free camping and Wi-Fi.
